May Student of the Month

 Trevor McCaffrey is the Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month for the month of May. He is the son of John and Linda McCaffrey. They live in Wellsville, Ohio. Trevor is ranked fourth in his class with a GPA of 4.179. Trevor has been on the All A Honor Roll his entire high school career. He will also be graduating with an Honors Diploma.

He Lettered in Track his sophomore and junior years. He also Lettered in Football his junior year. He was Captain of the Track Team his sophomore and junior years and was EOAC Student Athlete. Trevor has Lettered in Football his senior year.

Outside of the classroom, Trevor is a member of Student Counsel, National Honor Society, Project MORE, mentor and peer tutor, Senior Class president, and participates in College Credit Plus.

Trevor plans to study at The University of Akron and majoring in Aerospace Engineering.

2018 April Student of the Month

April Student of the Month

Dalton Ash is the April Student of the Month. He is the son of Daniel Ash and Stacey Ash. They live in Rogers, Ohio. Dalton is ranked twenty seventh in his class with a GPA of 3.45. Dalton was on the A/B Honor Roll his sophomore and junior school years. He has maintained All A Honor Roll his senior year.

He Lettered in Track his sophomore and junior years. He was Captain of the Track Team his junior year. He also Lettered in Football his junior year. Dalton Lettered in Football his senior year and is once again Captain of the Track Team.

Dalton is busy with extracurricular activities. He participated in Project MORE, Rural Scholars through Kent State University, counselor for Camp Fitch to monitor and assist Southern Local sixth graders, volunteers at the county dog shelter, takes college classes through College Credit Plus, and assists the IT coordinator as needed.

Dalton has been accepted to Kent State University in the pre-med program by majoring in Bio-Med. Then he plans to attend The Ohio State University School of Medicine to pursue a career in general surgery.

2018 March Student of the Month

March Student of the Month

Robert “Joey” Dickson is the March Student of the Month. He is the son of Billie Jo Dickson and Robert Dickson of Salineville. Joe is ranked 6th in his class with a GPA of 4.071.

Joe has been on the A Honor Roll his entire high school career. He was inducted into the National Honor Society his junior year and has participated in the College Credit Plus Program for the past two years.

Joe is a member of the football team for Southern Local. His junior year he received 1st Team All ITCL and 1st All-Quad County Team recognition. This year he made 1stteam All-Quad County, 2nd Team All-EOAC, 1st team OVAC, 1st Team Columbiana County, and All-District Honorable Mention.

Kent State University created the Rural Scholars Program several years ago. Joe was a member of the initial class and participates in the activities very year. Joe is a role model for younger members of this program.

Joe works as a laborer for a local lawn care business. After graduation, Joe plans to attend Kent State University. He wishes to major in Physical Therapy or Criminal Justice.

February 2018 Student of the Month

Anna Sevek is Kiwanis’ February Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Kari and Roger Sevek and lives in Hammondsville. Anna is ranked 18th in her class with a GPA of 3.676.

Anna has been on the A/B Honor Roll for all of her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. As a senior, she has been on the All A Honor Roll. She was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior. This year Anna was awarded to the OVAC Academic All Conference Team.

As an athlete, Anna was recognized by the Morning Journal Newspaper All Area Honorable Mention and Columbiana County Honorable Mention for basketball her freshman year. As a sophomore, she made 2nd team District One for volleyball, 2nd Team Columbiana County for basketball, Honorable Mention North East Inland All-Star for basketball, and All Area Honorable Mention for the Morning Journal for basketball. Anna was successful her junior year with 2A OVAC All Conference Award for basketball, 2nd Team Columbiana County for basketball, and 2nd Team District for volleyball. So far this year, Anna has received for volleyball EAOC 1st Team, the OVAC All Conference Team, and 2nd Team District One. She has secured the school record with 1023 kills. This is still basketball season – those awards are soon to come!

Anna has been a member of a traveling JO volleyball team for seven years. She supports her fellow athletes by engaging in the student Blue Crew at events. She participates in the College Credit Plus program by taking classes through EGCC. In her free time, Anna works at the family business – B&S Carryout.

Anna’s future plans are to attend college and major in Pre-Law.

2018 January Student of the Month

January Student of the Month

Mattisyn is the Kiwanis Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Ron and Amy Infanti of Wellsville. Matti is ranked 6th in her graduating class with a GPA of 4.0.

Miss Infanti has been on the A Honor Roll her entire high school career. She was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year. She participates in the College Credit Plus Program through Eastern Gateway Community College.

Mattisyn is very busy with extracurricular activities. She is a member of Spanish Club, Student Council, Prom and Homecoming Committees, Leadership Committee, and National Honor Society. She was Junior Class secretary and remains secretary of her Senior Class. Matti represented her grade last year for Fall Homecoming Court and this year for Winter Homecoming Court. She is an aid for the athletic director and very supportive of Southern Local athletics through being a member of the Blue Crew.

Miss Infanti also volunteers with local agencies. She has given of her time to Lindsey’s Christmas Hospital Toy Drive, Red Cross Blood Drive, Veteran’s Day Assembly, and the Humane Society. Not that she is busy enough; Mattisyn also works as a dance instructor for the Henry Mancini Arts Academy in Midland, Pennsylvania.

Mattisyn plans to attend a post secondary institute and major in Early Childhood Education and Special Education.

December Student of the Month

The Southern Local Salineville Kiwanis December Student of the Month is Miss Skyler Lewis. She is the daughter of Dominique Hayes and Michael Hayes. Skyler lives on McCormick Rd, Salineville. She is ranked 2nd in her class with a GPA 4.158.

As a freshman, Skyler placed in three categories for a high school Writing contest. She received Honorable Mention in the high school Art Show. Skyler started 2015-16 as a sophomore and accelerated to Junior status. During this year, she was inducted in to the National honor Society, placed in three categories in a high school Writing contest, and received 3rd place in the school Art Show. Skyler also participates in College Credit Plus where she takes classes at Kent State East Liverpool Campus. This year she attends Kent all day.

Skyler was treasurer of her freshman class and secretary of her sophomore class. She has been vice president of Art Club, and a member of Robotics, Student Council, Spanish Club, and Chess Club.

Skyler’s plans after high school graduation are to move to Florida and pursue studies in computer engineering, 3D animation, or computer programming.

November Student of the Month

 The Southern Local Salineville Kiwanis November Student of the Month is Miss Cara Davis. She is ranked 3rd in her class with a GPA of 4.147. Cara is the daughter of Megan and BJ Davis and they reside at 41673 Boyd Rd, Wellsville. Cara also has a little brother named Aiden.

Cara started her junior year participating in College Credit Plus and this year is at Kent State University all day. She attended the Summer Honors Institute at Youngstown State University her junior and senior years. She was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year.

Miss Davis is very active in the music programs at Southern Local. As a sophomore and junior, she earned a II ranking (excellent) on a vocal solo at the OMEA District 8 Solo and Ensemble Contests. Both years she was also selected to attend the OMEA 8 Honors Band and Columbiana County Honors Band. As a junior, Cara participated at the OMEA District 8 Solo and Ensemble where she received a I (superior) rating.

As if this young lady has any spare time, but she also participates in the following: marching, concert, and pep band where she plays the French horn and mellophone (she is section leader for both); Drama Club; Robotics; HPAC; Choir; Spanish Club where she is president this year; a team leader for Young Life; and leader of the Youth Coalition.

Cara’s future plans are to attend the College of Wooster and major in Computer Science.

October Student of the Month

The Southern Local Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month for October is Stella-Ruby Karcher. She is the daughter of Michelle Rockenhauser and Oyo Ellis. Stella-Ruby lives with her mother in Hammondsville. She is ranked eighteenth in her class with a GPA of 3.628.

Stella-Ruby was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior. She was in the band her freshman year where she lettered. Stella lettered in basketball her sophomore year. She earned the Indian Award for basketball her junior year as well as Most Enthusiastic Award for cheerleading. Stella-Ruby will letter in volleyball this year as a senior.

Stella is Vice President of Student Council. She was on the Football homecoming Court. She is a member of the Leadership Committee, Drama Club, and Choir. She is involved with the Salem Community Theatre. She has been a member of Spanish Club for three years, Young Life, a teacher’s aide, the PBIS Crew, Video Editing and does the afternoon announcements. Stella is active in the Blue Crew and an instructor for Everyone’s Welcome Church Vacation Bible School. Stella was the lead in last year’s drama performance.

Stella-Ruby also finds time to work outside of school related activities. She is employed at the Shale Tavern in Lisbon. Stella plans to go to college to major in Education or Psychology and minor in Theatre Arts.

2017 September Student of the Month

September Student of the Month

Miss Laci Growe is the Southern Local Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Mindy Growe and lives on Sherwood Ave in Wellsville. Laci is ranked 1st in her Class with a GPA of 4.203.

Miss Growe is an excellent academic role model. She has been on the all A Honor Roll her entire school career. She earned the FFA Green Hand Degree her Freshman year and the FFA Chapter Degree her Sophomore year. As a Junior, Laci was inducted into the National Honor Society, made the Dean’s List at Kent State East Liverpool as a member of the College Credit Plus Program, and received the FFA State Degree. Then so far as a Senior, she attends Kent State, volunteers with the Southern Local Marching Band, and she has earned the Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month.

Laci competed in gymnastics up through her Sophomore year. She has Lettered every year in Band and Track. As a Sophomore, she received the Indian Award for Track.

Outside of school Miss Growe is a member of the Sundowners 4-H Club and is president this year. She was ranked 3rd place in State horse judging and earned a medal for the perfect score of 100 on her project book. Laci is a member of the Tomlinson Run Foundation, OGI Gymnastics, YMCA and a life guard, Youth Town Riders Association, AAU and USAG Gymnastics, a junior coach for the Pegasus Track Club, and attends the Wellsville First Christian Church, Oakridge Presbyterian Church, and Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Laci also works as a life guard for Tomlinson Run State Park and the Calcutta YMCA. She is also an assistant coach for Kinsey’s Gymnastics.

Currently, Laci wants to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy put is still considering several options for continuing her post-secondary institution.
